Squeezing the joy out of every moment

This summer is perhaps one of the most anticipated ever, and there's a good reason for that. After months of worry, boredom and being separated from the things and people we love, re-embracing the world again is cause for some serious celebration.

But with that comes a lot of pressure. How do we make up for lost time? How do we mark all of those celebrations missed? Well, we’re here to share some ideas to get you started, so that you can make sure you’re squeezing the joy out of even the smallest of moments…

1) Savour every first

As life slowly creeps back to some sort of normality, we’re all experiencing so many things for the first time in a long time, and that’s cause for celebration! Do your best to savour each and every first - whether it’s a cup of coffee with a friend you haven’t seen for months, a precious squeeze with a family member or that first night away from home that you’ve been dreaming of.

2) Celebrate Christmas in July

Christmas 2020 was a disappointing one for many, so why not celebrate Christmas in July instead? Gather with your loved ones, cook up a festive feast and play the games you’d usually play during the holiday season. You’ll feel like you’ve made up for lost time, plus the novelty of a faux-Christmas in the sunshine will bring a smile to everyone’s faces.

3) Make a summer bucket list

It feels like we’ve been waiting for this summer for such a long time, and it would be such a shame to let it pass us by without getting round to everything we want to do, so why not create a little summer bucket list? Jot down everything you want to experience this summer on some pieces of scrap paper, fold them up and pop them in an empty jar - then pick one thing to do each week.

4) Embrace spontaneity

One thing that has been seriously missing from our lives in the last 18 months is spontaneity. Every outing outside of the house has come with a serious side of planning, and so where you can, embrace being a little more carefree and spontaneous this summer. Chase the sunset, say yes to that impromptu BBQ and make those last-minute plans just because the sun is shining - you won’t regret it.

5) Surprise your loved ones

We’ve all missed out on so much time together this year, so when you do finally get together with friends and family, why not surprise them? Bake them a cake to celebrate the birthday you missed, pop the fizz to toast the new jobs and milestone achievements, or whip them up their favourite meal just because. They will so appreciate it, and it’ll fill you with joy, too.

How are you planning on making up for lost time this summer?
