A COLOURFUL CELEBRATION FOR PRIMULA’S 80TH BIRTHDAY

Primula, the ever popular squeezy cheese brand celebrated its 80th birthday with a bang last Friday (September 25th) as staff members released 500 balloons into the sky from Gateshead’s Team Valley.

Staff from Kavli, the maker of Primula cheese, released the balloons at 12.45 on Friday afternoon from the Kavli factory. As well as marking the celebration of 80 years of Primula, the balloon release will also raise money in aid of Kavli’s official charity, The Children’s Foundation.

Kavli will donate funds to the Foundation for every mile the balloons travel. In addition, the person who finds the balloon that travels the furthest will be awarded a hamper stuffed with Primula goodies.

Craig Brooks, marketing director at Kavli said: “Primula is a fun, family brand and the balloon release seemed like a perfect way to celebrate this milestone. It also provides another great opportunity to bring our staff together in support of The Children’s Foundation.

“Our sales are up a massive 25% this year which proves that traditional values of wholesome quality and great taste are just as relevant to this generation of mums as they were to their parents and their grandparents. We aim to continue to cater for busy and active lifestyles and look forward to what the next 80 years has in store.”

Quality, convenience and versatility have driven Primula’s growth in popularity and success over the last 80 years and the brand has expanded into new areas of dips and lunchbox snacks, most recently introducing a soft cheese in a tube under the Primula Deli brand. The various ranges are available to buy in all major supermarket chains.

Primula’s products are extremely versatile and can be used for anything from a filler for a sandwich or a wrap to a topping for bagels, crackers or baked potatoes, or even as an ingredient in recipes such as fondue, chocolate and almond cheesecake, broccoli and cauliflower bake, Thai sweet chilli chicken and as a quick sauce for pasta.

The Primula balloons are still in flight. Keep an eye out for blue and yellow Primula balloons to be in with a chance of winning the Primula hamper. For details of the above recipes or more ideas on how to use Primula, visit www.primula.co.uk.

About Primula

Primula Cheese is a leading household brand and the range consists of original Cheese, Cheese & Chive, Cheese & Ham, Cheese & Prawn in tubes and Primula Cheese in tubs. Primula Deli Soft Cheese in a tube was the latest innovative addition to the range, with more to follow.

The recipe for Primula’s famous spreadable cheese is a closely guarded secret. The original recipe was created in 1924 by Olav Kavli in Bergen, Norway and is still used today at the Kavli factory in Gateshead over 80 years later. Primula has resisted the move taken by other brands into cheaper, reduced cheese recipes and has geared its marketing effort to celebrate its cheesy credentials and quality ingredients.

Today Primula continues to offer consumers its traditional values of convenience, versatility and great taste. As a good source of calcium and with a lower fat content than ordinary hard cheese, Primula cheese is perfect for quick, wholesome snacks.

Kavli Ltd manufactures a range of spreadable cheese and dips from its Gateshead site under the Primula brand.

The company also owns Castle MacLellan Foods, based in Kirkcudbright, proud makers of exquisite Scottish pates made from the finest local ingredients.

The Kavli Group is fully owned by the Kavli Charitable Trust which supports good causes both in the UK and worldwide.
